18-Wheeler, Pickup Truck Collision Closes County Road 29 for More Than Three Hours

ROCK RUN, Ala. — A collision involving an 18-wheeler and a pickup truck shut down a portion of County Road 29 in the Rock Run community for more than three hours Thursday afternoon after diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway.
The crash occurred at approximately 12:58 p.m. Thursday, August 20, on County Road 29 between Rock Run Baptist Church and County Road 45.
According to reports from the scene, the collision punctured one of the 18-wheeler’s saddle fuel tanks, causing a significant amount of diesel fuel to leak onto the roadway.
Emergency personnel closed County Road 29 in the area while crews worked to contain the fuel spill, clean the roadway and safely clear the vehicles from the scene. The closure remained in place for more than three hours.

Despite the extent of the roadway cleanup, no injuries were reported in the crash.
The Spring Garden Volunteer Fire Department, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Troopers and Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency responded to the scene.
Motorists were asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes while emergency crews worked to contain the spill and reopen the roadway.
The cause and circumstances surrounding the collision have not been released.
