Woman with Larceny Warrant in Etowah County Arrested After Violating Hands-Free Law in Georgia

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On April 7th, 2022, at 7:10 PM, PFC Doan was monitoring traffic at the intersection of Booze Mountain Road near Park Ave/Old Cedartown Road. Officer Doan reported, “[I] observed a gray in color Nissan Altima traveling Eastbound on Booze Mountain Road and upon further observance, [I] was able to see that the driver was holding their cell phone in their right hand while operating a motor vehicle which is a misdemeanor in the State of Georgia according to OCGA 40-6-241(c). The officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, later identified as Whitney Schvonne Watkins, 34, of Rome. While the officer was writing the citation, he was advised by dispatch that Watkins had a felony warrant through Etowah County in in Alabama for Larceny. Watkins’s warrant was confirmed and Etowah advised that they wised to place a hold on her. Watkins was transported to the Floyd County Jail.
