Two Killed, Two Injured in Single Vehicle Accident

SPRING GARDEN, Ala. - According to reports from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, a single-vehicle accident has claimed the lives of two people, 21-year-old Brittney Hayes of Piedmont, and an 18-year-old Michael Hayes of Vidalia, Ga.



The accident happened at approximately 4:30 p.m. Thursday, January 19, on Cherokee County Road 175 near Cherokee County Road 8, approximately five miles north of Piedmont, in Cherokee County. 



Ellisville Fire Department, Cherokee County Rescue Service, Alabama State Troopers, and Cherokee County Coroner Paul McDonald responded to the scene.



The two individuals were fatally injured when the 2003 Ford Explorer they were passengers in, left the roadway, struck a mound of dirt, and overturned.



Both Brittney Hayes and Michael Hayes were ejected and not using seat belts at the time of the accident and they were both pronounced deceased at the scene. 



The driver, 20-year-old Cameron Drummond of Chatsworth, Ga., and another passenger, 22-year-old Blake Broome of Piedmont, were both injured and transported to Regional Medical Center Hospital (RMC) for treatment. 



Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
