Cherokee County Board of Education Sets Special Called Meeting, First FY27 Budget Hearing for Monday

CENTRE, Ala. — The Cherokee County Board of Education will hold a special called board meeting and its first budget hearing for Fiscal Year 2027 on Monday, August 31.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the Cherokee County Board of Education Central Office, located at 200 Armory Road in Centre.

According to the agenda provided to The Weekly Ledger News, board members are expected to review several matters involving district operations, finances, insurance coverage and personnel.

One of the primary items on the agenda is the FY27 Budget Hearing, providing an opportunity for the board to review and discuss the school system’s proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

The board is also scheduled to review revisions to the district’s policy manual and consider renewing participation in the Alabama Trust for Boards of Education’s General Liability/Errors and Omissions Liability Fund and Automobile Fund for the 2026-27 school year.

Additional agenda items include consideration of agreements, bids, travel requests, professional development and the superintendent’s representative for the 2026-2027 Sick Leave Committee.

Board members are also expected to consider personnel action, review current job postings and receive an update from the superintendent.

The meeting agenda also provides an opportunity for public comments near the beginning of the meeting.

The August 31 gathering is designated as both a special called board meeting and the first budget hearing for the district’s FY27 budget process.
