Van and Tractor Trailer Collide on Cave Spring Highway Near Bagwell Road

A Collinsville, Alabama man, Preston Evans Jr, was charged with a wreck near Cave Spring, Georgia that shut down Cave Spring Highway near Bagwell Road for hours on Tuesday.


Reports said that Evans crossed the centerline in a 2013 Dodge Caravan and hit a tractor trailer head-on.  The wreck resulted in a fire being set on the road by a detached fuel tank from the tractor trailer.  Evans told police that the sun was in his eyes, causing him to swerve into the oncoming lane.


According to Sgt. Chris Fincher with the Floyd County Police Department, several police units were nearby when the wreck occurred and were able to assist the drivers and the fires before anyone could be seriously injured.


Police added that Evans was uninjured and the driver of the tractor trailer, Rhonda Putman of Wellington, Alabama was transported to Atrium Health Floyd for treatment of minor injuries.


Evans is charged with failure to maintain lane. (Coosa Valley News)
