DEKALB COUNTY - A 70-year-old man, Emmanuel Michael Gedeon, fell to his death at High Falls Park in Grove Oak over the weekend.
According to DeKalb County Coroner Tom Wilson – the man lost his balance and fell from a 40 to 60-foot ledge around 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
It took the rescue crews a couple of hours to finally be able to retrieve the body from the water.
High Falls Park is located near Lookout Mountain in DeKalb County, and it features a 35-foot waterfall, a swimming area, and hiking trails. The incident isn’t the first death to occur at the park.
In 2017, 18-year-old Mason Tompkins died after he jumped from a rock into a creek and failed to resurface. Rescue squads later found the teen’s body not far from where he had jumped, and in 2014, a 16-year-old boy from Union Grove drowned at the park and another girl was injured while swimming with friends.
