CHATTOOGA COUNTY, GA - Summerville and Chattooga County residents affected by the Labor Day Weekend Flood are still waiting to find out if there will be any federal funds to assist with the cost of the cleanup and repairs from the flooding in September.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp issued a disaster declaration on September 4. That declaration expired on October 4.
The deciding factor for area residents will be if the cost of cleanup from the flood meets the threshold for relief from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). That decision would have to be made by November 4 and then forwarded to President Biden for his signature.
Should that take place, resources would be available to local residents for 60 days after the President signs the disaster declaration.
