ETOWAH COUNTY - First responders from the City of Gadsden on Wednesday recovered a body from the Black Creek gorge at Noccalula Falls Park, according to a news release from the city.
The Gadsden Fire Department received a report of an unresponsive person in the gorge between the falls and the park’s suspension bridge, according to the release.
Fire personnel arrived at the scene and found a body in a rocky area; the victim had apparently been dead for some time.
Etowah County Coroner London Pearce identified him as Benjamin King, 42, of the Gadsden area. He said he spoke to the man's grandmother, who told him she'd last seen King five or six days ago.
Pearce said there was nothing to indicate foul play, but an investigation into the death continues.
It took three hours to recover the body, according to the release, as fire department personnel executed a high-angle recovery, with assistance from the Gadsden Police Department and park employees.
No other information was immediately available; the release noted that future updates would come from the police.
